Café con Eva # 1

IT’S THE END OF AUGUST!

Autumn is a blink away. This summer was a crazy one for me. We moved from Maryland to Georgia, became homeowners, our toddler turned 3, and finally planned our trip to Puerto Rico! With all of this stuff going on, I feel like I haven’t devoted as much time to my blog so today I wanted to do my first Q+A post to answer the questions I received through my instagram.

HOW DO YOU STAY ON TOP OF GOALS? HOW DO YOU BUDGET YOUR TIME, ETC?

This year I began to “talk myself out of talking myself out.” When I think something is not possible, I automatically tell myself that at least one thing can be done today, no matter how small the achievement is, it is an achievement. Other things I do to help me focus on staying on top of goals are:

  1. DND:

My phone automatically is set to Do Not Disturb mode after 9pm. That way I don’t get any distractions from my phone. I don’t receive any notifications from anything.

  2. BUSINESS HOURS:

8pm until I fall asleep is ME time. I learned a while ago to run yourself like a business. So set up times that you WORK FOR YOURSELF. I am usually working from 8pm to Midnight on a project. I treat it like a part time job.

  3. Calendar System:

I use both Google Calendar AND a Planner. It’s a system that works for me. The google calendar is set to remind me of things that are due on that day and the planner helps me visualize/brainstorm the goals.

HOW HAS THE MOVE BEEN?

Moving was bittersweet because just as I was starting to get used to winter, not getting lost on the DC Metro, and making friends with really wonderful people, we had to leave. I didn’t really get a chance to say goodbye. Moving to Georgia with a month to prepare was insane. So far, we love it. We live in a small neighborhood with super friendly people. It is definitely slower paced than the DC area and has nice atmosphere for family life. Our home is still pretty empty so my next goal is to decorate. If you ever come this way, you better come see us!

HOW MANY PUSH UPS CAN YOU DO?

Probably just one! But if I can do one after 6 months post C-section then I will be very proud of myself!

HOW DO YOU BALANCE DOING WHAT YOU LOVE LIKE BLOGGING, PHOTOGRAPHY ETC AND STILL BEING A GREAT MOMMY TO YOUR TWO BEAUTIFUL BOYS WHO ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 5?

Gosh!! Thank you so much! I want to look back and at least be able say that I was present in the lives of my children. I come from having admin/managerial experience and I can tell you that finding balance was not an easy task. I went from having reports that showed progress, to feeling like I wasn’t accomplishing anything because every day with little kids is something new or the house will look a mess right after I deep cleaned it. Honestly, the transition made me feel like I lost my identity. There is so much pressure in the mom world. After much reflection, I realized that I didn’t have to sacrifice personal goals because of my new role as a mother. After my first year of motherhood, I decided to start creating something a day. A sketch, a photograph, a journal entry, anything. Even if I got that done, I could feel accomplished. Soon, I got back into shooting portraits and going on day trips to explore the Maryland/DC area. I had to find the balance by constantly telling myself: “We make time for what we want to make time for.” When I am with my two boys, I try and give them all my time and when they are asleep is when I focus. Not all days are easy, and some days I do feel like I should just stop trying to make it happen, but that is part of the journey. When you truly want something, you will find a way.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING? OR PHOTOGRAPHING?

My fist blog was mostly a photoblog where I would post about my photoshoots circa 2010. I began blogging again with VidaMinimo.com last November!

Photography – I started around 2007 with a cheap Sony digital camera, I would mostly shoot concepts and play around with photoshop. Eventually I started working in front of the camera for photographers, some who would give me critique/pointers on my photography work. Around 2010 I started taking it more serious, luckily I have many lovely friends who modeled for me so I could practice and build a portfolio. Eventually, I got some business cards, a website, and began to book shoots!

HOW DO YOU FIND RESOURCES FOR QUOTES OR COMICS EVEN?

Since high school I have collected quotes, I have many quotes written down in journals. A ginormous quote book I found at a local bookshop. Tumblr has a great collection of quotes & funny webcomics. Most of my favorite quotes come from movies, songs, and books that I read.

APPS FOR EDITING PHOTOS?

VSCO: I use this 90% of the time. It has been my favorite editing app for years now. You can also save and copy+paste your edit settings, so helpful when you are on the go.

LIGHTROOM CC: I use this when I am able to sit down and edit on my Mac. I love that it is in sync with the LIGHTROOM CC App so I can access the final images on my phone immediately.

WHY ARE YOU SO KIND AND BEAUTIFUL ALL THE TIME?

Psh I wish this were true! I have a lot of bad days too, but one of my rules is to NEVER go to sleep mad! Speaking of kind, it reminds me of a quote :

“Please don’t expect me to always be good and kind and loving. There are times when I will be cold and thoughtless and hard to understand.

- Sylvia Plath

Well, thats all the questions. I hope to answer more next month.
