Hirshhorn Museum Spring Gala Party 2018
As an 80’s baby, I always felt l like I missed out on enjoying one of the best eras. From the art, music, and fashion: everything was so experimental, organic and fun. Fortunately, I had the opportunity of going to the 2018 Spring Gala Party where The Hirshhorn Museum awarded Jeff Koons and gave the Exhibit, BRAND NEW: ART AND COMMODITY IN THE 1980’s, a super rad finale.
I THINK AS ARTISTS, THE WAY THAT WE WORK – WE KIND OF HAVE A DEEP INFORMATION. WE HAVE INFORMATION IMBEDDED IN OUR GENES AND OUR DNA ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN…THAT IS QUITE PROFOUND.

SEND IN THE CLOWNS!
Afterwards, a troupe of clowns strolled right in as part of a commissioned performance work by Jennifer Rubell. The clowns interacted with guests and asked them to participate to win a candy. From juggling, dancing, hoolahooping, animal impersonations…it was interesting to see most people go from hesitant to childlike and playful within minutes.
♫ IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR, I CAN FEEL YOUR POWER,
JUST LIKE A PRAYER, YOU KNOW I’LL TAKE YOU THERE ♫
DJ JUS SKE worked the music all night, spinning the iconic sounds from Madonna, The Weather Girls and Prince. The energy was so beautiful as people who lived in the 80’s partied right alongside those who were born in the 80’s and 90’s. When DJ JUS SKE announced the last song, everyone unanimously shouted in disagreement. We all felt the night was just too good to end too soon.
