7 Things You Can Simplify In 7 Days

Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly.

It’s your masterpiece after all.

― Nathan W. Morris

Now that we are in the final week of January, we may have started on our resolutions, still are trying to figure them out or maybe even gave up already. Have you thought of the many things you have been holding on to from the previous years that may be holding you back from your full potential? These things can be tangible items like: documents, old photos, old phones or even traits like: bad habits, bad friends, or bad memories. Before continuing into the next month with all this baggage, now is the perfect time to to do a little winter cleaning to simplify our lives, so we can focus better this year.

SIMPLIFYING YOUR LIFE
MAKES ROOM FOR THINGS THAT MATTER.

This doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice everything you own and live in a bare four walled cell. You can start at whatever level you feel comfortable with. Think about it. We are products of our environment. Look at the spaces where you spend your time. On our phone, at home, at work. What are the conditions? I can assure you: if your environment is junky, your life is junky. If you have random things and trash everywhere on your desk, it reflects your mind. If your closet is filled with hundreds of clothes and shoes that you barely wear, you might be holding on to too many things in your mind that no longer matter. When you edit your life, you will be able to function much better.

WHAT YOU CAN EDIT IN YOUR LIFE THIS WEEK:

1. PHONE:

Unused apps, old texts, absent contacts, old photos. They’re taking up space. Let them go.

2. EMAIL:

Unsubscribe and Delete never felt so good! Take a couple hours and clean out the inbox, organize folders, set filters.

3. SOCIAL MEDIA:

Why follow people you don’t like, why keep “friends” on the list that you don’t even talk to. Follow people and pages that inspire you. Clean your list. Use this opportunity to reach out and create connections.

4. CLOSET:

Every season, clean your closet. Donate or sell clothes that don’t fit your or haven’t been worn in 6-12 months.

5. KITCHEN:

You want to eat healthy but your fridge is cluttered? Clean your cabinets and fridge every 2 weeks. Say goodbye to old foods. Put the healthy foods where you can easily see them.

6. SOMETHING YOU COLLECT:

Focus on a collection of items that you subconsciously hoard. Example: Books, Makeup, Socks, Mail, Toys, Coffee Mugs etc. In my case, I found a box full of pens of all kinds. Take a day this week to sort and organize them. If they are items that have been gathering dust, make a decision to use, sell, or donate. If you live in a household of 4 people, there’s no need for 40 cups. Be honest with how important the collection of things are and make an effort to minimize what’s not necessary.

7. YOUR SELF:

Thoughts – Recognize bad thoughts and let them go to make room for better ones.
Words – When you have better thoughts, better and more powerful words can be spoken.
Actions – Start saying no to things that don’t align with you. Start saying yes to things that can challenge you to be your better self.
